You will often hear around our house the phrase…”That’s so Local News.”
For example: when the KTOWN evening news reports that due to the drought we are experiencing people have been watering their lawns to keep the grass alive…cut to the reporting standing in a cul-de-sac pointing to various lawns showing how some grass is alive and some is dead with the camera panning showing these unfortunate lawns…(this is a factious example)…“That’s so Local News”
Or a story like this. Which was actually reported.
“That’s so Local News” also applies to the situation where a reporter will read from his/her laptop, on the air, the latest headlines from what is obviously a national media outlet as if he/she were actually reporting the story…and not just reading it from a web page. What makes this situation even more “Local News” is when the main reporter says “For the latest on the War in Iraq, we go to Smiles McGee at our ‘War Room Desk’….which is usually just across the studio a few feet away. And there is Smiles McGee reading from his laptop.
Don’t get me wrong, this term is not meant as an insult, but more of an observation of humor or disbelief that such a “story” would make the News. This phrase is usually followed by a rolling of the eyes and a chuckle.
With that said, it looks like a couple of KTOWN’s favorites are moving on from “Local News.”
“That’s so Local News” just won’t be the same…well actually…it probably will.
Sarah will be disappointed.
