No Mo SoKno

How do you know you are blessed…you have 7 people show up on a Saturday morning to help you move!

Let me extend my absolute gratitude to all of you that helped us.  It took one 17′ moving truck (two trips), four pick-up trucks, a CRV, beer, Gatorade, and pizza to pull it off.

The day went off without a hitch, unless you count the fact that our stove decided to commit suicide on James White Parkway.  By the way, don’t leave the tailgate down on the truck and use more than one strap when you are transporting a stove.  No worries, the strap held….the door in place while the oven was dragged about 200 ft.  No big deal…the wife wanted a new one.

Now that we own two homes, we have decided to refer to the old one as our ‘Summer Home’….yes…we summer in the South of Knoxville.  Anyone want to buy a house in SoKno?

Anyway, during the move a reader of KTOWN (known only as the guy that was driving the truck when the stove died) suggested I post the Top Ten Things We Will Miss about SoKno….so here they are:

We Will Miss:

10.  Being able to fire a .357 off in the backyard without it being all that out of the ordinary.

9.  Getting excited about the new Wal-Mart that is being built just down the road

8.  Getting excited about the Lowes that is being built just down the road near the new Wal-Mart

7.  Getting excited about the IHOP that is being built just down the road in front of the Lowes near the new Wal-Mart.

6.  Teaching the Meester to pee off the deck…we can do this at New House, but I don’t think the neighbors will find it all that amusing.

5.  Hearing the fireworks during Booms days and Football games

4.  The Handy Dandy…the neighborhood market/deli/tanning salon/bait shop

3.  Being so close to James white Parkway…practically an extension of our driveway

2.  Handing out candy on Halloween at Island Home BLVD…and acting like we live there

And the biggest thing we will miss…

1.  SoKno Freecycling Philosophy.  Set anything by the road the night before trash pick-up and a beat up pick-up truck or completely rusted vehicle will come by and pick it up.

And the stove that jumped out of the truck on Jame s White Parkway.  We decided to leave it on the side of the road, and when I returned an hour later….gone.

SoKno baby!

So where is your summer home in SoKno and are you really selling it? I'm an agent, always have people looking to move down. We live south as well and love it here.

    Best,
    Jessica Rodocker
  • I'm so glad you guys got all moved in!! Aaron and I would have helped, but I am just now finding out that you moved in last weekend!!! Sorry! When I get home from my traveling next week, I'll call you and set up a time to bring over some food and help you pick out paint colors ;) By the way...where's the invoice for our bathroom stuff? Bring it on...

    I think you forgot some:

    1. The beer window at Underdogs
    2. 50c pool at Underdogs (take that West Knoxville!)
    3. The fountain of Youth
    4. The dude that built the fountain of Youth (Not Ponce de Leon...just Leon)
    5. One word: KenJo
    6. Scratch-off poker
    7. Referring to our nature center as 'Eye Jams' for the first 3 years you lived here until somebody corrected you.
