I recently found out that an acquaintance of mine ( friend of a friend…really) recently moved from a quite rural farm, to the big lights and big times of Chicago. When I found out about this I was a bit skeptical, but I wanted to be supportive of his decision. The story, from what I am told by others that know him better, is almost something like out of the movies….big hometown favorite, grew up right, in the right family, and had lots of nurturing and a great upbringing, surrounded by friends and family, top of his class….

Then he got the dream to move to Chicago and make a go as an artist. He found out the big city is a hard to place to learn about life. He tried and tried to get his work shown in all the major art venues, but he had to pay the rent, and ended up becoming a starving street performer. Down on his luck, he turned to drugs and living on the streets. He was found outside an apartment building on the South Side of Chicago on a cold October morning clinging to life. It might be too late for him, but make sure this doesn’t happen to your All American “Farm Boys.”

Click here to see a picture of him when he was found outside. WARNING, it’s a bit unnerving.
