KTOWN’s Latest Music Purchase

I was up late…well actually it was very early…Tuesday morning (3 am) rocking Ethan to sleep and passing the time by writing a few posts while a Conan O’Brien re-run was on. I am not usually that great at multi-tasking, but for some reason that morning I felt inspired, or maybe just bored.

Anyway, the musical guest on Conan that night caught my ear. Actually it was this gal and her really cool, large, white guitar. She had a bit of a raspy voice and the song had a little “Pick-Up and Go” to it, if you know what I mean. I tried to remember her name, but at that time of the day, my brain wasn’t exactly a sponge for random information.

Last night, while working late, I felt the need to find out what that song was and the gal that was signing it.

After searching the Conan site for about an hour, I finally found the artist.

I wish I was one of those people that is always hip to the latest musical groups and songs, but since most of my time is spent trying to start a profitable business, playing “Where did Ben hide Daddy’s cell phone”, and making sure the dogs don’t terrorize the neighborhood, I’m just not as cool as I wish I was.

You have to understand, I come from the generation that actually watched music videos on MTV and made mixed tapes in order to have a variety of songs in one place. Now MTV only plays various pornographic shows and MP3 players have replaced the mixed tapes. I now realize my music prowess came to a grinding halt circa 1992. I tried to be cool in college and stay up on the latest music, but unfortunately I can remember putting “Tears for Fears Greatest Hits” on when trying to set the mood on those infrequent romantic weekend nights. What can I say, I love eighties music.

But on this quiet Wednesday night, I expanded my music library to include KT Tunstall. And due to today’s music technology, I was able to purchase the song, Hold On, for only $0.79. Not a bad deal. I’ll probably download the entire album, but for now, I’ll just wear out this song.

I also come from the generation where you had to take the risk of buying the entire album in order to get the one good song you liked…unless you were lucky enough to get it on a mixed tape from someone who was trying to impress you.

Now after listening to several of her other songs, I realized that I had heard her before, but just didn’t know it…which also makes me out of touch.

Yeah, but there was also at least the chance that you were going to end up with an album full of good songs too.

I can't even find a good song now.

    I'm old.
