This is often the first question people ask, and our answer is, “No, it’s not a family name until now.” We actually had the middle name picked out first, Asher.
Ethan Asher just sounded good. Mom figures that if he is going to be a white collar kind of guy, he will go by Ethan, if he’s going to be a professional snowboarder, he’ll go by Ahser (just because it sounds cool), and if he’s going to be in the pit crew for a Nascar driver, he can go by “Little E”…although that name might still be in use.
We really weren’t that creative with the name Asher…we just starting going through the tribes of Israel, and came across Asher…it means happy.
I was up late tonight trying to get Ethan back to sleep, and was using the “extra time” to get caught up on my Bible reading. I am only about 6 months behind on the “Yearly Reading Plan.” Anyway, I just happen to read this and thought, “Yeah Asher is a great middle name.”
Deut. 33: 24 And(A) of Asher he said, “Most blessed of sons be Asher; let him be the favorite of his brothers, and let him(B) dip his foot in oil. 25Your bars shall be iron and bronze, and as your days, so shall your strength be.
