After over four agonizing weeks waiting for our new mattress, it finally arrived this morning.  I received a call from The Wife and she and her mother, Momo as she is called by the grandkids, and the Meester and E were all bouncing on the new mattress…a little family time on the bed.  I can’t wait to get home tonight and finally get a good night’s rest.

Along with a new mattress to improve the quality of life, I have instituted a “No Refined Sugar” edict at KTOWN.  This should help cut out all the junk food that has somehow made it into our house since I have been married to my beautiful wife.  And yes, I blame her for my fatness.  Don’t get me wrong, she doesn’t make unhealthy food.  Actually she eats and cooks fairly healthy stuff, even going so far as to make E’s baby food by hand.

The problem is that she has self-control and I do not.  Before I was married, I never drank sodas and I was somewhat impartial to chocolate.  Once I lived with her, the aforementioned vices became a staple in our home; except she could always partake of them in moderation.  I, on the other hand, would dive into them and consume with passion and fervor.

And now after almost 7 years of marriage, it’s time to put an end to soda and cast the chocolate from my presence. So I came across this via Instapundit:

The 11 Best Foods You Aren’t Eating

  1. Beets: How to eat: Fresh, raw and grated to make a salad. Heating decreases the antioxidant power.
  2. Cabbage: How to eat: Asian-style slaw or as a crunchy topping on burgers and sandwiches.
  3. Swiss chard: How to eat it: Chop and saute in olive oil.
  4. Cinnamon: How to eat it: Sprinkle on coffee or oatmeal.
  5. Pomegranate juice: How to eat: Just drink it.
  6. Dried plums: How to eat: Wrapped in prosciutto and baked.
  7. Pumpkin seeds: How to eat: Roasted as a snack, or sprinkled on salad.
  8. Sardines: How to eat: Choose sardines packed in olive or sardine oil. Eat plain, mixed with salad, on toast, or mashed with dijon mustard and onions as a spread.
  9. Turmeric: How to eat: Mix with scrambled eggs or in any vegetable dish.
  10. Frozen blueberries: How to eat: Blended with yogurt or chocolate soy milk and sprinkled with crushed almonds.
  11. Canned pumpkin: How to eat: Mix with a little butter, cinnamon and nutmeg.

For more healthy eating, check out or friends blog.  She made her family go vegan, but still brings the thunder when making brownies.

So, if you happen to catch us in real life, and we seems healthier and look better, it cold be from the new matress, it could be from the lack of junk in our bodies, or it could be from a week long visit from my mother-in-law. (Yep, that one’s purely for sugar-free brownie points).
